The Boutique and a Book Recommendation

I have a few new posts that I am working on, but today I only want to give a quick update on our booth/boutique and recommend a book that I read this month.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that last October we rented booth space at a local facility that would allow us to “open” our little boutique. I have contemplated over the last two or three years doing an online store via Etsy or some other platform, but I really wanted something physical and local. We checked on The Pirate’s Cove in late August or September of last year. Then we went back the beginning of October and talked more with the owner. We decided to go ahead and rent some space and give it a try!

The Pirate’s Cove calls themselves the largest flea market in Arkansas, but it is more than a flea market. They allow local crafters like me to have a place to sell. They have just about everything you could think of from crafts to antiques to furniture to clothing to anything you would find at a flea market. And it is huge! It was formerly an Ashley Furniture Store, so there is a lot of square footage.

What is Available at the Boutique?

I took up crocheting again in 2020. Like a lot of people during that time, I revisited past hobbies. I learned to knit and crochet when I was in high school. My aunt taught me to knit. I cannot remember who taught me to crochet, so maybe I just read a book or just followed the patterns given with the yarn. Nowadays, there are so many tutorials online that it was very easy to pick it up again and refine my skills. I am not advanced by any means. I have my few stitches and items that I enjoy creating. The simpler the better for me. The booth/boutique gives me a place to showcase and sell those items.

My sister creates beautiful handmade tie-dyed silk scarves and a variety of jewelry. One of our daughters makes beautiful macramé wall hangings and other macramé items. She also crafts beautiful wooden butterflies in a variety of colors that are for outside décor. We have all those items in the boutique as well. (She has her own booth at Betty’s Attic & Jen’s Jewels in Rogers, AR. Her creations can also be found on her Facebook page Knots & Lots Creations.)

We also have second-hand items available that are in great condition. Things like puzzles, depression glassware, figurines, home décor, purses, and a little bit of clothing (never been worn). There are frames, books, and more.

Why This Information?

I say all of this to explain why I have a new page on this website. I created a product catalog located on its own page on the website. It is in PDF format and downloadable. I thought that would be a nice addition to the website and give all the information in one spot. I hope you check it out.

Next, A Book Recommendation

Front Cover of Untamed

This is not my usual way to post about a book recommendation. As one of the first books I “read” this year, I just wanted to mention it here in this post because it had a big impact on me. Since I listened to it as an audio book, I am seriously considering buying the book so that I can “reread” it and make notations while I do. I also believe it will be one to which I continue to refer back to for many years.

The book is Untamed by Glennon Doyle. The author “reads” the audio book, so I appreciated the emphasis and nuances she included because she was telling her own story. I know I am late to this book, but I am glad that I eventually found it. I even sent a text to my daughters recommending it to them right after I finished it. If you click on the title above, it will take you to a Goodreads synopsis of the book.

I would really enjoy hearing from others who have read it.

One Month In

Thank you for reading the post. I cannot believe the first month of 2022 is almost over. I hope you all are well and stay safe out there!
