Daddy – I am Reminded

I wrote the first draft of the following in September 2016, a year after losing Daddy.  Obviously, he is on my mind this week as he is every day.  I mostly wrote as if speaking to him.  Thank you for reading and for indulging me this opportunity to share.   There you are, wrapped in blue satin fluff.  You are exposed from the waist up, all dapper in your navy blue suit and light blue shirt, and a tie (did you have on a tie?).  Your hands are placed one atop the other and rest on the bill of your Chosin Few hat that is…

Meet the Farm Family – Canine Division

Thought I would introduce some of the farm animal family this week – something a little lighter and hopefully it will make you smile.  This week, meet our canine division. Canine #1 – Meet Catalina She is nine years old, greying like so many her age, with a kind heart and a shrill bark.  She didn’t really even bark her first few years of life.  Just “whoofed” a little bit.  Now, when she hears the washing machine thump or someone set a glass down on the counter she tears in to her barking spree. Generations of Love – One Daughter to Another

My oldest daughter was born in 1987.  We celebrated her birthday last week.  When she was born and I held that sweet baby in my arms, I never knew so much love could exist in my heart. Importance of Relationships – A Simple Note

Teaching is not as much about the subject (dare I say?) as about the relationships built with students. Genuine respect and regard for a student will foster a work ethic on behalf of the student if he/she believes the teacher is genuine.   I kept a note from my second year of teaching because of the impact of a young man named AJ*.  I see the actual note today in my writer’s notebook, and I am reminded of the importance of building those relationships with our students. AJ was in my 10th grade English class. He was a nice looking young man, dark hair, a little skinny,…

Songs of My Life

Song and Memories – 1962

We all have them.  The mental or emotional response about an earlier time or event that is triggered when we hear a particular song. I’ve been on a quest to record my memories associated with a host of songs.  As I continue to research the time period of the song and events of history during the time of its release, I am finding that songs not only evoke a memory in my life but also serve to connect pieces of my life. 1962 – Introduction I was born in 1962.  The President of the United States in 1962 was John F. Kennedy.  The European edition…
